One of the most common problems that I see my practice is bunion and bunion pain. Most people don't understand what a bunion is.

  1. It is an enlargement of the great toe joint on the inside edge of the foot. What most people see is an enlargement of the great toe joint usually associated with the great toe deviating towards the smaller toes and sometimes greatly impeding on those toes.
  2.  People usually also ask if the condition is going to get worse.  Well it definitely is going to get worse. Bunions are progressive.  They get worse over time.
  3. Bunion size doesn't always correlate with pain. I see patients with small bunions that have a lot of pain and patients that have very severe bunions with no pain at all. The pain is usually the motivating force for someone to present to my office for evaluation and treatment.
